Gardiner Artwalk Kicks Off Fourth Season May 16, 2008
Water Street Gardiner, Maine
On May 16th, area artists will once again be showcased in storefronts and studios in Gardiner’s historic downtown for an evening of art appreciation and exhibition. The event is free and open to the public Friday, May 16th from 5:30-8:30pm. The May 16th event is the first of three Artwalks, the following to be August 15th and December 5th.
Artwalk Gardiner was formally launched in the fall of 2005 by the Artdogs studios and a handful of area artists who exhibited their work to a well attended, appreciative audience. Artwalk Gardiner is a non-juried, member-run organization that accepts artists within a ten-mile radius of downtown Gardiner.
Through regular exhibitions in downtown Gardiner, the Artwalk’s mission is to increase community awareness and appreciation of the visual arts; to encourage interaction with local artists and the public by providing artists with a supportive network that fosters the creative economy.
Artwalk Gardiner has drawn hundreds of people for this quarterly event collaborating closely with the local businesses. Nearly a dozen storefronts display up to twenty area artists. To give the community a sneak peek, A1 To Go, a popular downtown eatery, hosts a preview show beginning May 9th. Maps will be available at area businesses to match venues to artists.
In addition to art, Long Meadow Farms will be selling seedlings and Namaste, venue host to local artists Judy Herman and Valerie Paul, will be offering free 5 min chair massages and tours of their new treatment room.
