Downtown Gardiner will come alive with visual and performing arts all along historic Water Street on Friday evening, December 4th, during the holiday Artwalk. The hours have been extended for this occasion, to give visitors more time to take in this festive event, which will take place from 5:30 to 9:00pm. More than three dozen local artists and artisans will be showing and selling their work inside their studios as well as in storefronts and other spaces 'borrowed' for the evening. Works in media ranging from oil painting to photography, fiber art to mixed
media assemblage, will be available at affordable prices. In addition, visitors can meet the artists, learn about their work, and enjoy a cultural evening without traveling far from home. As a special holiday treat, live music will be performed throughout the evening by Martin Swinger, John Ganz, and Mike Bensen; and members of Gardiner's own R&B Dance Company will perform in the Johnson Hall mini park from 6:00- 6:30. The dances are student choreographed to favorite holiday classics.
Leading up to the Artwalk, a 'sampler' mini show, featuring selected works by Artwalk artists, is currently on display inside the A-1 To Go Community Market and Cafe. A complimentary detailed map and listing of individual artists and the venues where they can be found is being compiled, and will be available at the Artwalk on Friday evening,
ARTWALK GARDINER was launched by members of ArtDogs studio, together with a handful of local artists, five years ago, founded on the belief that art is essential for sustaining a vibrant and healthy community. Its mission is to increase community awareness and appreciation of the visual arts, to encourage interaction and familiarity among local artists and the general public, to provide artists with a supportive network, and to foster the creative economy through regular art exhibitions in downtown Gardiner.
