CDBG Downtown Revitalization Public Hearing 3/3
Public Hearing Notice
City of Gardiner, Maine

The City of Gardiner, Maine will hold a Public Hearing on March 3rd, at 5:30PM, at the Gardiner City Hall to discuss an application being submitted to the State of Maine CDBG program for a Downtown Revitalization grant.  The purpose of the grant application is to make public infrastructure improvements in the downtown area, including: electrical/telephone/cable utilities relocation, bike and pedestrian path construction, a modified façade program, and parking lot/streetscape improvements.  Public comments will be solicited at this Hearing and will be submitted as part of the application.  All persons wishing to make comments or ask questions about the grant application are invited to attend this Public Hearing.  Comments may be submitted in writing to:  Jason Simcock, Planning and Development Director, City of Gardiner, 6 Church St., Gardiner, ME 04345 at any time prior to the Public Hearing.  TDD/TTY users may call 711.  If you are physically unable to access any of the City’s programs or services, please call Deidre Berglund, City Clerk, at 207-582-4200, so that accommodations can be made.

Gardiner has spent many years planning to revitalize the area identified as the Cobbossee Corridor.  Part of the 2005 Master Plan for redevelopment includes the construction of the Cobbossee Corridor bike/ped trail.  This trail will connect the downtown and Cobbosee Stream area to the popular Kennebec River Rail Trail.  MaineDOT has awarded the City an enhancement grant to complete the project.  In late 2009, the City and MaineDOT approved the prelimary design report for the trail, which defines the location of the trail.  The City is applying for 2010 CDBG grant funding to help provide funding for infrastructure within the downtown area.

A copy of the Cobbossee Corridor Master Plan, as well as details about the Trail project can be viewed on the City's website at:   http://www.gardinermaine.com/Public_Documents/GardinerME_EcDev/CobbosseeCorridor

Please contact Jason Simcock, Planning & Development Director, at 582-6888, or jsimcock@gardinermaine.com if you have any questions or comments.
