The ice jam in Farmingdale eroded over the coarse of eight days by warmer water temperatures. The heavy rain we experienced broke the ice apart and washed it down river in pieces. The warm weather also degraded the ice south of the ice jam which made it possible for the ice jam to continue down river. A lot of shore ice is still present along parts of the river but pose little danger. Snow up north that will melt into the Kennebec river basin could still cause flooding problems because it contains normal amounts of water and the ground is already saturated. Heavy
rain up north could release some of that water and snow melt and cause spring flooding. Overall conditions are considered normal to below normal for this time of year. The short term weather forecasts are for continued above normal air temperatures which will slowly degrade the snow pack as well as lake ice. Rivers and streams continue to run high flows this time of year and any amount of rain could aggravate the situation.
