The fall teams of Cony and Gardiner High Schools are showing their support for the fight against cancer. In an effort to raise awareness and funds for cancer treatment and support, the field hockey, football and soccer teams are hosting the second annual "Drive Out Cancer Challenge" here in Gardiner. All proceeds from the exhibition games, raffles and concessions being donated to the Harold Alfond Center in Augusta.
The goal of the "Drive Out Cancer Challenge" is to encourage community involvement, heighten cancer awareness and raise funds for the Alfond Center Outreach programs. It is also a way for young athletes to better understand the impact this terrible disease has on many families and to empower them to start to do something to combat it.
Come watch central Maine's best athletes do battle on the fields in order to make others medical battles a little easier.
