Gardiner, Maine
Anne Davis, Director of Library and Information Services for the City of Gardiner, is pleased to announce that the library has a new Special Collections Librarian who will be responsible for managing the Community Archives Room and to help with the renovation plans for that room.
Martin Blasco, the newly hired Special Collections Librarian, was an economist in Buenos Aires, Argentina and worked as an ethnographer in New York City before switching careers. Since then, he has been both working in libraries in Connecticut, New York and Maine, and specializing in dealing with rare and collectible books. He received a B.A. from City College of New York and a Master of Library and Information Science from Long Island University.
“I cannot be more pleased with Martin’s background and his ability to work with our community members and all their research needs. Mr. Blasco is an excellent addition to our library staff and he will be invaluable to us as we begin our Phase 3 renovation plans for the library. The Community Archives Room is the heart of the Greater Gardiner area as it holds much of the cultural heritage and documentation of Gardiner” reports Davis.
The library’s Community Archives Room is opened Monday-Friday from noon until 5PM. The collection contains many rare photographs, diaries, manuscripts, high school yearbooks and microfilms of most of the local newspapers that served Gardiner from the early 1800s to the mid 20th century.
