GRANT AWARD ANNOUNCED
Gardiner Public Library Director, Anne Davis, is pleased to announce that the Gardiner Library Association is a recipient of a $5,000.00 grant from the Maine Charity Foundation Fund of the Maine Community Foundation.
The Gardiner Library Association is a non-profit agency that owns and maintains the historic Gardiner Public Library building. The 130-year-old structure continues to be one of the busiest libraries in Maine and serves the towns of Litchfield, Pittston, Randolph, West Gardiner as well as the City of Gardiner.
Davis explains that this new grant will be used during the Phase 3 plan for interior restoration. “Our local history room, the Community Archives Room, has major issues with air-quality and has terrible inconsistencies with temperature. Archives should be stored in a moisture free, temperature controlled environment. We are constantly battling mold blooms and seeping walls.” The Gardiner Public Library Archives Room mission is to collect items that pertain to the local history of the lower Kennebec River Valley.
The members of the Gardiner Library Association, the staff of the Gardiner library, and the residents in our library community wholeheartedly thank the Maine Community Foundation for the support of this project. The foundation is a statewide organization with offices in Ellsworth and Portland. The Maine Community Foundation partners with donors and non-profit organizations to strengthen Maine communities.
