There will be an informational meeting for anyone interested in gluten free living/celiac disease at the Gardiner Public Library in the Hazzard Reading Room at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 5, 2011. This meeting is not to diagnose or give medical information, only to give support and ideas of how to better manage with a gluten free diet.
Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that affects the small intestine with nearly 1 out of every 120 people in the United States either diagnosed already or soon to be diagnosed. The only cure at the moment is to adhere to a strictly gluten free diet.
Many newly diagnosed people, as well as those who have had the disease for a long time, become frustrated with the availability of gluten free food or are not familiar with how to cook gluten free.
Please feel free to bring along family members and friends, as they too will find this information valuable.
To speak to the facilitator, please contact Cecily Muller at cecilyamuller@gmail.com or 207-391-2886. Ms. Muller has celiac disease and, after much research and experimentation with food, she now lives a gluten free life.
