Anne Davis, Director of Library and Information Services for the City of Gardiner, is pleased to announce that the library has opened a “gently” used bookstore at 242 Water Street, Gardiner, Maine. The store rents space within the Lisa’s Legit Burritos store. What makes this store, Book It!, so unique is that all proceeds from the store will be used for the renovations of the library’s Community Archives Room - a collection of unique local history, genealogical materials, rare maps and manuscripts.
Every book for sale at the store has been donated and the store is managed by dedicated and loyal volunteers. If you would like to help in this effort, you can. Drop off both prime books (for Book It!) and more worn books (for the library’s semi-annual sale) at the library located at 152 Water Street.
Davis hopes to begin the renovations this fall, and the estimated cost has been projected to be $165,000. “I know that our community is not a wealthy community, but we enjoy such huge support for the library. In 3 years we have received donations, grants and funds from the Gardiner Library Association allowing us to restore our Children’s Room and our Main Floor at a cost of about $500,000. This project will get done with everyone’s help. Come and enjoy a burrito, buy a book (or two) and help us reach our goal!”
