New Gardiner Business Assistance Guide Now Available!
Gardiner Announces New Business Guide

Gardiner, ME, March 30, 2011 Starting or expanding a business in Gardiner just got a little easier!  The City recently completed a guide that is designed to help businesses better understand the permit and licensing process as well as the many local, regional, state and federal business assistance programs currently available.  Interested businesses are encouraged to check out this new resource, “A Guide to Doing Business in Gardiner, Maine,” which is now available online.

“Whether looking to start or expand a business downtown, the Libby Hill Business Park, or elsewhere in Gardiner, the new guide provides lots of helpful and practical information up-front for businesses,” said Mayor Andrew MacLean. “We look forward to helping businesses make their decision to grow as successful as possible in Gardiner.”

The first section of the guide provides a road map on what is needed for permits and licenses for areas throughout the city.  This section includes details on how to navigate certain downtown regulations including the historic district and flood plain areas.  This section also includes a list of key contacts, all of the steps involved with local permitting, and a user-friendly reference chart to help popular business types quickly overview permit and license needs.

The second section includes over 14 pages of local, regional, state and federal business assistance programs.  The City of Gardiner currently offers business assistance via tax increment financing, a “gap finance” revolving loan fund, and a discount program for new or expanding commercial wastewater connections.  In addition to local assistance, the guide covers regional, state, and federal finance programs.  Gardiner included information about commercial “tax reimbursements, credits, and exemptions” as well as workforce training, environmental protection other technical assistance programs.

While the new guide provides a great starting point, businesses are also encouraged to contact the city’s Planning & Development office so that staff can assist.  For more information, please contact the Planning & Development office at 207-582-6892, or email to econdev@gardinermaine.com.
