Have a go at Gardiner

Press Release – Immediate distribution
HAVE A GO AT GARDINER
An Interactive Event

On Saturday, December 1st, members of the “Gardiner Heart and Soul” project invite Gardiner residents and community members to “Have a Go at Gardiner”.  This community open house will include live music, free food from Gardiner restaurants, and engaging activities for all ages.  The event will take place from 2-4 PM at the Boys and Girls Club, 14 Pray Street in Gardiner.

Gardiner Heart and Soul is a collaborative partnership for a radical shift in the community’s involvement in civic life and decision making.  The leaders of the effort wish to give voice to every citizen in Gardiner to develop a broadly-shared vision for the future, and ultimately, policies and plans which shape that future.

“Have a Go at Gardiner” will feature various “stations” that will allow citizens of all ages to express the most important parts of the city as it is, and as they imagine it will be in the future.  In addition to the Heart and Soul stations, various community groups including the Rotary Club, Johnson Hall, Gardiner Public Library, The Eagles Club, Boys and Girls Club, Gardiner Youth Hockey, The Kennebec Land Trust, and Gardiner Main Street will present interactive exercises that pertain to their respective missions.

This fun-spirited open house and party will include “A Taste of Gardiner”, which showcases Gardiner’s great variety of restaurants.  Entertainment will be provided by “Mes Amis”, a gypsy jazz trio.  Door prizes and other giveaways will be offered to participants throughout the event.

December 1st marks a full day of activity and fun in Gardiner.  Craft fairs at various locations, the Gardiner Public Library book sale, and other events will animate the Gardiner community.  “Have a Go at Gardiner” will bridge the afternoon before Gardiner Main Street’s “Who-liday Bakery” at Johnson Hall – a Grinch heart cookie decorating party starting at 4 PM, immediately followed by caroling from Mainely harmony at 5:30 PM, and the official Gardiner Tree lighting ceremony at 6 PM.

Gardiner Heart and Soul is a cooperative project between the City of Gardiner, Gardiner Main Street, Gardiner Board of Trade, and the Orton Family Foundation.  The two-year project seeks to better define the “Heart and Soul” of the community by determining shared values, and translating those values into future decision making and community building efforts.
