CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER / ASSISTANT PLANNER
The City of Gardiner (pop. 5,800) seeks an experienced and energetic professional to fill the position of Code Enforcement Officer / Assistant Planner. This employee is responsible for enforcing all applicable laws and ordinances governing shoreland zoning, comprehensive planning and land use, internal plumbing, subsurface wastewater disposal, and building standards. Desired minimum qualifications:
(A) Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent:
(B) At least three years experience related to inspection; law enforcement, building inspection, land use, public administration or a related field; or
(C) Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
(D) CEO/LPI Certification.
(E) Post-secondary training in municipal and land use planning is highly desirable.
(F) At least two years experience related to municipal and land use planning; public process and community outreach; and ordinance creation, updates, and review.
(A) Possess certification as required by 30-A M.R.S.A. 4451 and 30-A M.R.S.A. 4221
(B) Must possess a valid State driver’s license and have dependable transportation.
Candidates should possess thorough knowledge of code enforcement principles, practices and methods as applicable to a municipal setting; working knowledge of applicable laws, standards and regulations relating to various land use, nuisance and public safety codes; working knowledge of inspection techniques; and knowledge of the field of building construction. This candidate should also have considerable knowledge of local, state and federal development regulations governing land use, building and plumbing, and plumbing construction, and ability to interpret same, and ability to recognize code violations and to take appropriate enforcement action.
Base salary range is $40,000-$50,000 (DOQ), plus excellent benefits including MainePERS Retirement.
