Daughters of the American Revolution April Program
Local historian Mike Bell will present a talk on General Benedict Arnold on April 12, 2014 at 10:00am at the Gardiner Public Library. The talk is sponsored by the Samuel Grant-Mary Kelton Dummer Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution of Gardiner-Hallowell.
Bell, a distant relative of the famous patriot leader, has a different perspective on Arnold. “He was a complicated man who contributed more to the patriot cause than most care to remember,” Bell said. As commander of a wing of an early patriot attempt to capture Quebec, Arnold passed through this area in 1775. Both the Colburn House in Pittston and Fort Western in Augusta still stand today.
Legends of the Dark Eagle: the Life and Times of Benedict Arnold will certainly challenge and entertain those who can attend. The chapter’s meeting is open to the public.
