Gardiner Public Library archives restoration
Members of the Gardiner Library Association ecstatically announce that they have received $112,000 in grant money from 4 different foundations and one private donor.  Over the past few months, volunteers identified grants that will now help pay for the renovations of the Community Archives Room with an estimated cost of $145,000.  These improvements will include installing centralized heating/air-conditioning; creating a vapor barrier to regulate moisture; installing LED lighting to prevent further light damage to rare materials and purchasing mobile bookcases that allow staff to move the collection when needed.

The Gardiner Public Library maintains an archives room with a mission to collect and preserve documents, diaries, photographs and many other unique items that reflect and illustrate the long and rich history of the Lower Kennebec Valley.  With the successful restoration of this room, these pearls of the past will be available to history buffs, genealogists, researchers and students for many years to come.  If you are interested in finding your past, please come and visit the library.  If you would like to donate to the restoration project, please contact the library director at 207-582-3312.  The library is located at 152 Water Street.  Please visit www.gpl.lib.me.us for more information.
