The Gardiner Public Library is selling a new book by Gay Grant. Destination Unknown is a memoir that tells the story of Patricia Phillips who was evacuated from her hometown of Portsmouth, Great Britain when she was only 8-years old. Her parents made the heart wrenching decision to send her and her brother off to live with strangers so that they could escape the constant bombardments of Nazi Germany. It is also the story of an unexpected friendship forged between an American writer and Ms. Phillips as she relates her traumatic story and
finally finds solace in this remarkable friendship. Signed copies of the book are available at the Gardiner Public Library for $18.95 with some of the proceeds being used for the Community Archives restoration project.
