Local authors visit the library
Come join the staff of the Gardiner Public Library as they welcome author Christopher Lockwood and illustrator Arlene Kelley as they discuss their new book, The Tennis Ball Tree on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 10AM-11:30AM.  Mr. Lockwood will read his delightful story about the good dog, Fannie, her love for her family and for tennis balls.  After the author reads the title, he will discuss inspiration for the story and how he went about getting the story published.  Illustrator Arlene Kelley will bring along some of the original artwork from the book and discuss the process of illustrating a children’s book.  Lockwood jokes that tired parents will appreciate the brevity and lightheartedness of The Tennis Ball Tree.  In describing the book, Lockwood recounts that when his children were younger, he enjoyed reading bedtime stories to them, but sometimes he fell asleep reading the longer stories.  The kids would call downstairs, “Mom, Dad fell asleep again.”  It’s fitting that his first children’s book is lighthearted and very short!

Lockwood and his wife Cindy live in Hallowell.  They have four grown children and nine grandchildren.  He has served as Executive Director of the Maine Municipal Association since 1979.

Arlene Kelley is a Central Maine artist and graphic designer.  She studied art at the Maine College of Art and Laguna College of Art and Design, California. She now operates her own art and design business, Vivid Art & Design. The Tennis Ball Tree is her first published illustrated book. She lives in Pittston with her husband Daniel Baird and their children, Ariana and Henry, and their cats, Caramel and Linzey.

This program is free and opened to the public.  The library is located at 152 Water Street, Gardiner.  Call 207-582-3312 for more information.
