LOCAL AUTHOR BRENDA BUCHANAN
TO SPEAK AT GARDINER PUBLIC LIBRARY MARCH 29
Portland lawyer Brenda Buchanan will read from her recently-released novel TRUTH BEAT—the third book in her Joe Gale Mystery Series, at the Gardiner Public Library on Tuesday, March 29 at 6:30 p.m.
Buchanan’s novels feature Joe Gale, an old-school reporter with modern media savvy who covers the Maine crime beat for the imaginary Portland Daily Chronicle. The first in the series, Quick Pivot, finds Joe in the middle of a four decade-old cold case. In Cover Story, Joe goes to Machias in the dead of winter to cover a politically-sensitive murder trial. Both were released in 2015.
In Truth Beat, Joe struggles with unreliable sources while covering two explosive stories—the apparent murder of a Catholic priest who stood up to his church and a spate of increasingly destructive bombings near the local high school. Most of the action occurs in Portland and Joe’s imagined hometown of Riverside, but scenes also take place in Bangor, Bethel and even a pub in Gardiner.
Buchanan is a former newspaper reporter with a deep reverence for small town journalism. Before law school she covered a variety of beats at the York County Coast Star in Kennebunk. For the past two decades she has been a partner at the Portland law firm Warren, Currier & Buchanan.
This program is free and opened to the public. The library is located at 152 Water Street.
