The staff at the Gardiner Public Library announces a new series of workshops to be held in the gorgeous Hazzard Reading Room of the library. This local author series will feature writers from around the lower Kennebec Valley and will be held monthly through the fall.
From the beginning, the City of Gardiner has been a haven for writers and artists. Pulitzer-prize winning poet, Edwin Arlington Robinson was born in Gardiner and writer Laura E. Richards entertained many famous authors at her home in Gardiner. The library wants to continue in this tradition!
On Wednesday, May 25th from 7PM until 8:30PM the library will host a workshop with Brunswick author Deborah Gould, who will do some readings from her new book, Household. The book is being published by Reck House Press in Bath, Maine. Ms. Gould did most of her research for this novel while living in Pittston and using the materials available in the library’s Community Archives Room. The library staff will also host a book signing event after the workshop.
This series is sponsored by the Gardiner Library Association as the association begins the final phase of the interior renovations of the library. This phase includes the renovation of the Community Archives Room so that we can better preserve the materials that highlight our local history. The library has also opened a gently used bookstore called Book It! at 242 Water Street with all proceeds being used for the renovations. For more information about the library please call 582-3312. The library is located at 152 Water Street, Gardiner.
