City Council Minutes 05/10/06

City of Gardiner, Maine                         Regular Session 7:00 pm                                                         

1.      CALL TO ORDER

Mayor Rines called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.

2.      ROLL CALL

Lewis Benner, At-Large                  Richard Nickless, District 1

3.      PETITIONS, COMMUNICATIONS, RESOLUTIONS, & PUBLIC HEARINGS

3.1      Consideration of Comments from the Public on Issues that
           Do Not Appear Elsewhere on the Agenda (Please limit comments
          to five minutes.)

No public Comment.

4.      NEW BUSINESS

4.1     Consideration of Funding for Celebrate Downtown Gardiner
Fireworks.

Postponed until next week.

4.2     Consideration of Tax Abatements.

Motion by Councilor Nickless and seconded by Councilor Dellert to Accept
Tax Abatements.

Vote: 7 in favor 0 – opposed Motion: passes

5.      CITY MANAGER REPORT

Manager Kobrock stated that there is an update on the MacMaster land use case, a pre-hearing conference in Augusta and a trial date will be set. It has been transferred to Superior Court, so a date could take a while to be set.

6.         COUNCIL DISCUSSION

Councilor Benner stated that he recently spoke to Dorothy Washburn, she voiced concern about the E. A. Robinson project.  Ms. Washburn stated that $3500.00 is needed for card racks and plans to come before the Council for assistance in funding.  Ms. Washburn also voiced concern about citizen involvement, more is needed.  Discussion will be scheduled for the next Council Meeting.

Mayor Rines asked if there were any objections to adding an Addendum Item, there were no objections.

1.Consideration of Permit for Outdoor Consumption of Alcohol – Gardiner Elks #1293.

Motion by Councilor Doiron and seconded by Councilor Dellert to Accept Permit for Outdoor Consumption of Alcohol – Gardiner Elks #1293.

Vote: 7 in favor 0 – opposed. Motion: passes

7.      ADJOURNMENT TO BUDGET WORKSHOP

Mayor Rines adjourned the meeting to go into a budget workshop at 8:05 pm.
