Inspections include on-site administration of the State of Maine External Plumbing Code. A Local Plumbing Inspector (LPI) performs inspections. Inspections include on-site compliance checks for the installation or replacement of subsurface wastewater disposal systems or their individual components.
External plumbing work requires two mandatory inspections and one recommended inspection. The two mandatory inspections are:
° Inspection required before system is back-filled
° Inspection required within 6 months of completion for stabilization
The single recommended inspection is conducted when the disposal site is prepared for, but prior to, the fill material being placed. The bed area and immediate fill extensions must be free from stumps, trees, brush or other foreign materials. The entire area must be scarified.
External plumbing inspections require a twenty-four hour advance notice. It is the responsibility of the person authorized to perform the work to notify the LPI. External Plumbing inspections are performed Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
