3.)     SITE WALK
The City of Gardiner Planning Board will conduct a site walk of the property of Dana and Anne Purington who are seeking approval to conduct the following:  School for professional groomers; dog daycare; small retail; cat boarding; professional grooming services; children’s activities (story time and training of animals) and pick up and delivery of dogs, cats and exotic animals at 175 Capen Rd, City Tax Map 17, Lot 27-A.

Anne Purington described her proposal as pet grooming and training of groomers and doggie day care.  She showed the area where the parking will be and the outside doggie day care area.  She noted that they are going to put up a 6’ chain link fence with apron at the bottom.  They will remove the small trees

from that area along with dead ones.  She noted that the garage area will be part of the shop eventually.

Anne showed the Board members the area were she will have the grooming and grooming training school.  She said it will be heated with a monitor heater.  She showed them the sewer and plumbing and noted that they had a new septic system for this.

Anne noted that she will have from 8 – 10 dogs inside and out in the doggie day care.  She will not be boarding them overnight.  She will use the dumpster for waste.  In the winter, some will stay in and others would be out in the fenced in area.  They plan to put a stockade fence around the beagle area.

Anne said that she plans to have a small retail area where she will sell shampoo and other products that she uses on the animals.  It will be mostly for clients but could sell to others.

Anne was asked what exotic animals she was handling.  She said rabbits, iguanas and guinea pigs and these would be picked up, nails cut and delivered back.  There will be cat grooming also, but no day care for them.  She is planning to have a story time for the kids and their pets to help them know how to take care of them.  The parents will have to be there for that.

She intends to have the business open from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  The nearest neighbor is over 300’ through the woods.  She doesn’t believe there will be any noise problems.

Chair Hart asked what other animals they had.  Anne said 10 cows being kept in a pasture down the road, horses/ponies, 2 pigs, 12 chickens and a St. Bernard that she uses for breeding.

Chair Hart went over the Planning Board process with Anne.

Chair Hart asked David what a certain document within the packet was.  David said it was the Consultant, Bill Najpauer’s report.  She asked that in the future, he put his name and date on it.
