CITY MANAGER’S OFFICE
WEEKLY MEMORANDUM

TO:     Mayor MacLean, Councilors and Department Heads
FROM:   Jeffrey Kobrock, City Manager
DATE:   January 09, 2009
RE:     Weekly Memo

UPCOMING MEETINGS
Next Week's City Council Meeting Agenda
Next Week's City Meetings are available on our Calendar

Inauguration

City Council Inauguration is scheduled for Wednesday, January 14, 7 pm at the Boys and Girls Club. Maine Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner John Richardson will provide keynote remarks. The Boys and Girls Club will graciously provide refreshments, and as always friends and family are welcome.

Waterfront Project

Immediately after our Riverfront Bond award Jason and I started putting a task list together for moving the project forward as quickly as possible. The timeline that has emerged is extremely ambitious for numerous reasons relating to bidding and construction activities. Jason has already issued a Request for Proposals for the design, bidding and construction management of the project, with a submission deadline of January 15. Clearly this is a very fast track. The Waterfront Task Force will meet next week for an update and Council will be updated as necessary prior to a full discussion scheduled for the February 4 business meeting.

Water District/City Cooperation

The District and the City have instituted another cost sharing/efficiency initiative. A safety vehicle is being outfitted for shared use by both entities. This

Improves staff effectiveness and service delivery dramatically, by having a vehicle ready for field work, rather than having to outfit a vehicle every time we have an incident.

Reduces costs by sharing a vehicle.
Improves safety for employees by organizing all necessary equipment and assuring its availability.

It speaks well of both City and District staff that they invest the time and effort to design a cooperative approach that works across multiple services for the benefit of rate- and taxpayers.
