Next Week's City Meetings are available on our Calendar
Public Works Best Practices
With the arrival of the one ton plow truck we can implement several new advantageous practices. We can provide better service to the smaller in town streets, better protect investments in sidewalks and curbing and continue to relieve the grader of routine snow removal service.
We are also experimenting with less sand and more salt in the downtown and adjacent residential neighborhoods. Referred to as a “salt priority” method of snow and ice control, it is our expectation that this will lead to better road conditions at lower cost, when taking into account the significant street sweeping expense that heavy sand accumulation creates.
Leadership Development
Jim Toman is the latest of the management team to participate in a leadership development course. The Maine Criminal Justice Academy offered a two week intensive executive leadership course. Jim reports that about 25 participated from all across Maine and that the experience was challenging and inspiring. Several others from the management team have participated in leadership development offered by the Kennebec Chamber, Maine Municipal and Maine Development Foundation. These are extremely important professional development opportunities paying dividends to the City and community for years to come in improved service delivery.
