UPCOMING MEETINGS
Next week's meeting agenda
Next Week's City Meetings are available on our Calendar

  • Good luck to firefighter Patrick Saucier, who this past weekend began the Kennebec Valley Leadership Institute (KLI).   KLI draws prospective leaders from a cross-section of businesses, organizations and the community at large.  Its purpose is to stimulate these promising individuals to work more effectively within their own spheres of interest and influence and to expand their civic and community participation.  KLI seeks to foster a network of leaders who are committed to understanding and improving the Kennebec Valley.  Past graduates have successfully run for office, been promoted within their companies, sat on boards of directors throughout the community; and chaired various civic and community groups. KLI is an intensive, three-month (80 hour) training program that requires 100% commitment from its participants.  It is designed to give participants the knowledge and skills necessary to become more effective community leaders.  KLI is co-sponsored by the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce and the University of Maine at Augusta.  Last year, Fire Capt. Dave Smith graduated from KLI and current City Council Chris Leake is also an alumnus of the program.
  • City staff continue their efforts on putting together a comprehensive business packet to give to prospective business-owners who are looking to locate in Gardiner.  We also continue to work on a new personnel handbook with new and revised policies and expect to have this ready for Council review by April.
  • Departmental budget proposals are due today.  Next week we will begin setting up meetings with each department head to review their requests.  Department heads will be entering level-funded budgets for FY12, meaning they will create their budgets based on receiving the same amount of funding as in FY11.  The manager’s recommended budget will be presented to the City Council at your first meeting in April.
  • As you will recall, a few months ago a culvert gave out near the New Mills Market, causing a sink hole in the road.  The City has learned that DOT plans to redo this area in 2012, and this plan should include repairing this damage section of road.  As such, come Spring the City plans to fill in this hole rather than fix it with temporary patches so that it is passable until DOT can commence with their work.  This will save the City a significant sum of money and the road will be safe for vehicles.

As always, I appreciate the opportunity to serve the people of Gardiner as City Manager.
