CITY MANAGER’S OFFICE
WEEKLY MEMORANDUM

TO: ~~~~Mayor MacLean, Members of the City Council, and Department Heads
FROM:~~~Scott Morelli, City Manager
DATE:~~~March 11, 2011
RE:~~~~~Weekly Memo

UPCOMING MEETINGS
Next week's meeting agenda
Next Week's City Meetings are available on our Calendar

Below please find an update on recent City activities:

  • The U.S. Coast Guard will commence with their ice breaking operations tomorrow morning as there is a high level of confidence that the rainfall today will cause ice movement in our area of the Kennebec River.  There is a chance the cutter will make it to Gardiner tomorrow but if not it is scheduled to be here by this Sunday.  MEMA will be monitoring the potential for ice jams.
  • As of today the City can now begin accepting credit card payments for nearly any form of tax, fine, or fee.  This added convenience for our residents and business-owners is made possible through the State’s PayPort system.  The City will assess an additional convenience charge for use of credit/debit cards.  This charge equals the amount that PayPort and/or the bank charges us to process these transactions.  Those wishing to avoid these costs may elect to pay by cash or check.
  • The Planning Director and I met with Councilor Liberatore this week and put the finishing touches on a “Doing Business in Gardiner” business packet.  The aim of the packet is to provide new businesses or potential business owners with more information on the City, what permits/licenses are required to operate here, and to outline the numerous City and State programs and services that are available to them.  We anticipate this packet going “live” within the next week.
  • Captain Ron Gay will be retiring from the Gardiner Fire Department.  His last day on duty will be March 31, 2011.  Congratulations and thank you for your many years of service Captain Gay!
  • A reminder that the School Board’s Finance Committee will be meeting on Monday, March 14 at 6 p.m. at the Gardiner High School gymnasium.  They will be discussing the proposed FY12 school budget.
As always, I appreciate the opportunity to serve the people of Gardiner as City Manager.
