CITY MANAGER’S OFFICE
WEEKLY MEMORANDUM

TO:     Mayor MacLean, Councilors and Department Heads
FROM:   Scott Morelli, City Manager
DATE:   March 19, 2010
RE:     Weekly Memo

UPCOMING MEETINGS
Next week's meeting agenda
Next Week's City Meetings are available on our Calendar

I have continued to meet with employees, residents, business owners, and community organizations in my second week as City Manager in an effort to get a better understanding of our community and the issues we face.  I had an opportunity to tour the downtown this past week with Gardiner Main Street president Clare Marron, who introduced me to several shop owners and employees. This walk in the downtown area solidified my belief that we have some great businesses and a lot of exciting opportunities for growth here in our historic downtown.  Working with Planning Director Jason Simcock and others, I will continue in my efforts to meet business owners from across our City to hear their ideas and concerns.

Speaking of Gardiner Main Street, they will be hosting a Downtown Open House to draw attention to commercial properties currently on the market.  This event will take place next Saturday, March 27 from 11 am – 3 pm.  Sweet Love and Baxter Tea Company, located at 289 Water Street in Gardiner, will provide a home base for tour information and additional resources will be set up at 263 Water Street. For questions or additional information about properties and resources contact the Gardiner Main Street office at (207) 582-3100 or info@gardinermainst.org.  I encourage anyone interested in investing in Gardiner’s bright future to be in attendance.

Finally, the City has blocked off a portion of the Waterfront boardwalk that was damaged over the winter.  These portions have been restricted from any traffic to help ensure the safety of the public.  As you will see in the photos below, a majority of the boardwalk is open for the public to enjoy, which many residents did on this unusually warm and sunny March day.
