FROM:~~~Scott Morelli, City Manager
DATE:~~~March 25, 2011
RE:~~~~~Weekly Memo

UPCOMING MEETINGS
Next Week's City Meetings are available on our Calendar

Below please find an update on recent City activities:

  • Congratulations to Planning & Economic Development Director Jason Simcock, who has accepted a position with Androscoggin Bank in their Business & Government Services department.  Jason has helped the City accomplish a great deal of things during his tenure, including securing nearly $1 million in grants and overseeing the waterfront redevelopment project.  While we will miss Jason we wish him all the best in his new career.  His last day on the job will be April 8, 2011
  • Don’t forget to RSVP for the annual Board of Trade meeting, which will be held next Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 5 p.m. at EJP.  Please contact Jason Simcock by this Monday if you plan on attending so we can reserve you a spot.
  • A reminder that the School Board’s Finance Committee will resume its meeting on Monday, March 28 at 6 p.m. at the Gardiner High School gymnasium.  They will continue to hear public comment about the FY12 school budget
  • A bit of good financial news: the bond bank refinanced one of the Downtown TIF bonds.~ As a result, we will save $16,187 dollars in interest over the life of the bond.~ We will recognize the most savings this year ($7,474) and the rest will be spread out over the next nine years.
  • The City’s newly-developed Business Packet is now online.  This packet was created to help prospective businesses know what they need in order to locate in Gardiner and to also inform them of the many resources available to help them succeed.  We will soon be issuing a one page marketing piece to help attract business to Gardiner, which we will be able to post online and hand out at marketing-type events
  • Composter bins are again available through the City of Gardiner at a reduced rate of only $42.50 (retail value $100).  Orders will be taken through April 29, 2011 and items will be ready for pick up at the Public Works garage after May 16.  Please visit our website for an order form and for more information on how to order
  • Attached please find the annual abatement report from the City Assessor
As always, I appreciate the opportunity to serve the people of Gardiner as City Manager.
