Waterfront Grant

We received notice of a $150,000 Community Development Block Grant for waterfront development. Combined with the recent Congressional earmark of $147,000 we have a great 1-2 punch to knock out the next phase of improvements! With a planning effort well underway, we are poised for big progress on the waterfront this construction season. Congratulations Jason!

Libby Hill Expansion

Phase II Expansion bids were opened this week. Three bids were received. Two were significantly above estimates and one bid was below estimates. The engineer will analyze the apparent low bid for inconsistencies or problem areas. Concurrently, the marketing and business plans can now measure feasibility with these actual numbers. This is a very exciting convergence of project development.

School Budget

The communities of MSAD 11 have been invited to a discussion of the school budget April 9 at 7 p.m. at the High School Little Theatre. MSAD 11 is experiencing a severe drop in state subsidy this year due to increasing real estate valuations, declining student population and the across the board cuts made in the recent supplemental budget adopted by the Legislature. The Superintendent’s office was not able to provide background materials on Friday, after a Thursday night budget meeting for inclusion in the packet. The basis of the problem is a $1.6 million gap comprised of increased costs and declining subsidy. $842,000 has been cut by the School Board. That remaining after cuts will cause a 6.64% increase in Gardiner’s allocation or $173,457 in increased education costs.
