RE: Weekly Memo
UPCOMING MEETINGS
Next Week's City Meetings are available on our Calendar
Below please find an update on recent City activities:
- Last week I reported how members of our Fire Department raised funds to purchase two defibrillators for the high school. This week, I am pleased to announce more good news from the department:
- The Fire Department has received several grants this year, including $600 from MMA for safety equipment and $1,050 from a forestry grant. They also have an application in for a grant that would cover 90% of the cost of a new ladder truck and have several other applications in the works. Congrats to Chief Rick Cody and his crew for their diligence in applying for and securing funds to improve City services!
- Speaking of grants, this week the Police Department submitted a grant for the 2010 Summer High Visibility Enforcement Campaign to the Bureau of Highway Safety for the amount of $5,940. If awarded, the grant would provide for dedicated, high visibility enforcement details specifically to address seatbelt violations, speed enforcement and OUI’s beginning in mid-May and ending in late September. The grant has no local match.
- Public Works remains busy maintaining our City’s roads. As you have likely noticed, our crew has been out sweeping and cleaning, as well as filling in the potholes that have appeared over the course of the winter and spring.
- This week is National Library Week. I would like to remind everyone that after being closed for two days for some rearrangements necessitated by recent improvements, the Library will reopen on Saturday, April 17 and the first 300 visitors will receive a door prize.
- Councilor Lisa Liberatore would like to remind the Council and members of the public that there will be an upcoming webinar on form-based codes. The webinar is free and will take place on Thursday, April 22 from Noon to 1:30 pm. For more information and to view the webinar, visit: http://www.maine.gov/spo/landuse/FormBasedCodesWebinar.htm
- A reminder that City Hall will be closed on Monday, April 19 in observance of Patriot’s Day
As always, I appreciate the opportunity to serve the people of Gardiner as City Manager.
