FROM:~~Scott Morelli, City Manager

RE:~~~~~ Weekly Memo
UPCOMING MEETINGS
Next Week's City Meetings are available on our Calendar
Below please find an update on recent City activities:
- The City has posted for the revamped Director of Economic Development position. We will begin reviewing applications on May 25 and conduct first interviews in early June but we will continue to accept applications until the position has been filled. In the coming weeks I will be assembling a search committee to assist in the selection of this department head. Thank you for your feedback on this position
- The School Board’s Finance Committee will discuss and potentially vote on their recommended FY12 budget next week. The meeting will be held on April 26th at 6 p.m. in the high school gym
- The City has reached an agreement with Glacial Energy of New England to have a “not to exceed” electricity rate. The rate can be lower but will never be higher than this amount. The contract continues to be month-to-month so we are not under any sort of long-term obligation to get this rate. We will also be receiving a credit from Glacial for previous month charges that were at a higher rate than expected
- Attached please find Mayor MacLean’s testimony to the legislature in regards to the crematorium legislation
- We have assigned four different insurance companies to bid on providing our property and casualty coverage beginning in FY12. Six had filled out a pre-qualification form. We have a meeting with each of these bidders next week and then will have a bid opening on May 31st
- Our Tax Collector Kathy Cutler is going to be working on sending out our tax bills “in house” when they are ready to go out later this year. We expect this endeavor to generate a savings of at least $500
- The City has worked with the Department of Transportation to get approximately $50,000 worth of guard rail installed on River Road near the end of town, at their expense. This is another example of how our positive relationship with DOT pays dividends
- We saved just over $9,000 on our quarterly dispatching invoice due to budgetary reductions that had never been applied
- The Library recently performed a complete redesign of its website. Check it out at: www.gpl.lib.me.us
- Earth Day Reminder: Composter bins are again available through the City of Gardiner at a reduced rate of only $42.50 (retail value $100). Other items are available as well. Orders will be taken through April 29, 2011 and items will be ready for pick up at the Public Works garage after May 16. Please visit our website for an order form and for more information on how to order
As always, I appreciate the opportunity to serve the people of Gardiner as City Manager.
