CITY MANAGER’S OFFICE
WEEKLY MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor MacLean, Members of the City Council and Department Heads
FROM: Scott Morelli, City Manager
DATE: April 23, 2010
RE: Weekly Memo
UPCOMING MEETINGS
Next Week's City Meetings are available on our Calendar
Below please find an update on recent City activities:
- Residents may have noticed that they have yet to receive their quarterly sewer bill. Due to glitches in our billing software, the City has been forced to hold off on sending out these bills until the problem can be resolved. We are currently working with our software vendor to address this issue and hope to have it resolved within a few weeks. We apologize for this inconvenience and assure residents that the due date for all sewer bills will be pushed back for this quarter due to this delay.
- The Fire Department received some well-deserved positive press this week for its response to a camp fire in Litchfield. Firefighters responded by boat to the blaze, as that was the easiest way to get to the scene. Reporters from the Kennebec Journal and Fox 23 both got to ride in the boat with the crew to document the department’s response. For their reports on this incident, please click on a link below:
- Last night I attended a strategic planning session hosted by Gardiner Main Street (GMS) that included local residents and business-owners alike. This was an opportunity for members of the community to brainstorm ways to improve the downtown and Gardiner as a whole. A lot of good ideas were generated and there will certainly be more to come as a result of this endeavor. A special thanks to Shoestring Creative Group for allowing GMS the use of their beautiful office space located on the third floor at 177 Water Street!
- Best wishes to RSU 11 Superintendent Dr. Paul Knowles, who recently announced that he will be leaving that position as of September 1, 2010. I only had the opportunity to work with Dr. Knowles for a little over a month but I know he shepherded the school system through some difficult times and will be missed.
As always, I appreciate the opportunity to serve the people of Gardiner as City Manager.
