A Plethora of Plans

We will look at numerous plans under development at the next Council meeting. Within the context of the thirteen Bundled Projects three efforts are ready for Council review, and two are ready for Council action. A hallmark of all these efforts is the significant and meaningful public participation that has led to very strong products.

We will consider adoption the Waterfront Master Plan. In numerous ways this master plan codifies many of the informal concept plan elements that have developed ad hoc over the years we have worked on the project. In addition, it gives us a comprehensive roadmap to improvements, costs, phasing and funding. All this is available just in time for a May 9 grant deadline!

We will review drafts of the Common and Libby Hill Business Park plans. Although these plans are very nearly complete, we will review these drafts in anticipation of formal adoption in the near future. The Libby Hill Business plan is excellent background for consideration of the Libby Hill construction bid results. We have included the Libby Hill Marketing Plan in the packet for further background, although that plan is not yet ready for review.

And finally, we consider moving forward with sidewalk improvements that were developed within the bundles projects effort.

Regional Grant Application

The grant deadline referred to in the above waterfront discussion is a very exciting opportunity. We are applying to the Maine Investment Trust Fund for $500,000 in cooperation with the City of Augusta. This regional approach reinforces that the Kennebec River corridor is a fabric far exceeding municipal boundaries. The application seeks to improve the waterfront public areas of both Gardiner and Augusta in recognition that the investment yields greatest benefit when planned and implemented regionally. This is a very challenging approach and Jason has ably and successfully developed a strong project amid numerous hurdles. Thank you Jason!
