Next Week's City Council Meeting Agenda
Next Week's City Meetings are available on our Calendar

Children’s Room

The Library staff is getting ready to formally open the renovated, spectacular Children’s Room. On June 4 & 5 the Library will close for the purpose of moving the Children’s Room from the downstairs, back upstairs. On Saturday June 7, the room is formerly opened to the public.

Public Works

Last weekend was a very busy weekend for Public Works. Numerous events required the support of City staff for successful execution. The Friday night Artwalk, the Saturday downtown clean up and Rotary Rail Trail walk, as well as the Household Hazardous Waste Collection all relied upon “behind the scenes” City support for success.

On Wednesday special care was focused on the Common for the opening and ribbon cutting of the Farmer’s Market, with the very special addition of starting the Palmer Fountain earlier that day. All the vendors at the Farmer’s Market reported selling out within the first hour.

New (Free) Docks

Our new docks have been “launched” for the boating season. They are a great addition to the waterfront, replacing docks that lent a beaten, bedraggled look to the area and were a black hole of repair time and money. And of course the price was right. Thanks Reggie!

Fuel Bids

We received fuel bids on Thursday. We bid cooperatively with MSAD 11 in a statewide process with the Maine Power Options consortium and received a low bid $4.53 for heating oil. Luckily we also bid separately with MSAD 11 and that low bid was initially $4.29. However the market is so unstable that before we could respond, that bid became $4.31. Under these circumstances, the devil you know seems more attractive than the devil you don’t know, so we locked in. I have amended the budget to reflect these new realities.
