RE: Weekly Memo
UPCOMING MEETINGS
Next Week's City Meetings are available on our Calendar
Below please find an update on recent City activities:
- Now that the new fiscal year is upon us I wanted to remind the Council that several portions of the modest reorganization plan have gone into effect. Denise Brown has assumed the role of Finance Director, and she now supervises both the Tax Collector and the Assessor. We are negotiating with the General Unit union to add Deputy Treasurer duties to the Tax Collector position, Deputy City Clerk duties to a Utility Clerk position, and rename the Finance Admin. position to Executive Assistant. We are also beginning the process of reorganizing several office spaces in City Hall. Those changes should be completed by September 1, 2010.
- Due to a renegotiation in our property and casualty insurance policy, the City will be saving $12,000 on its premium this fiscal year for the same coverage! We appreciate the assistance of Gosline-Murchie in helping to secure these reduced rates for the City.
- The Public Works crew has started painting crosswalks and downtown parking spots this week. In the coming month, the crew will also begin to do road striping. City staff and representatives from Gardiner Main Street will also be attending an upcoming City Council meeting with a plan on how to utilize a $20,000 grant obtained from the State for pedestrian safety improvements. The City was awarded this grant because we are a Main Street community. These efforts will obviously make our community a more attractive and safer place.
- A reminder that City Hall and the Library will be closed on Monday, July 5th, in observance of Independence Day. Happy Fourth of July!
As always, I appreciate the opportunity to serve the people of Gardiner as City Manager.
