Sewer Liens Go Annual
We have completed our last quarterly sewer lien process and in the future will file sewer liens on an annual basis. In the past our billing software forced us to lien quarterly. This will certainly streamline the process internally, mirroring the current tax process, but more importantly it will save ratepayers in arrears the $50 quarterly lien fee.
Grader Goes to Limestone
We parked the grader several weeks ago when it became apparent it was no longer safe to operate. Next week the grader will be transported to the Maine Military Authority in Limestone for a complete rebuild. This facility is an element of the redevelopment of the decommissioned Limestone Air Force base and rebuilds heavy equipment for the armed forces, and state and local government. It has recently worked with the Department of Education to rebuild school buses at 1/3 the usual cost. We estimate the total cost for the grader will be $125,951, financed over five years as approved in the FY09 budget. This will refurbish the machine as “new” quality and give the grader another 15-20 years of useful service. The estimates for a new replacement ranged between $180,000 and $280,000. We expect the turnaround is about
90 days.
