Preserve America Grant

Great News! We have been awarded a $50,000 Preserve America grant. The grant will allow us to accomplish some key goals that capitalize upon existing assets or efforts, multiplying the value of this grant several times.

The grant will fund creation of efforts to market our significant cultural assets; a “Museum in the Streets” walking tour of architectural, cultural, or historically significant locations, interpretative signage and other written materials to educate and inform, and an overall marketing plan for Gardiner Main Street.

This is a really exciting opportunity to knit together many allied, but not quite coordinated assets and efforts. Congrats Jason!

Required Freedom of Access Training

All elected officials are required to complete Freedom of Access training prior to November 1, 2008. This requirement was adopted by the Legislature during the past session.

October 8 & 9 sessions at the Maine Municipal Association conference will cover this topic. We will be glad to register you if you would like to attend. Otherwise the requirement can be satisfied by reviewing information posted on the state’s website.

By going to http://www.maine.gov/foaa/faq/index.shtml and reviewing the full file of frequently asked questions (FAQ’s) you have met the requirement. A certificate of completion is required to be on file for each elected official. The certificate is available at http://mainegov-images.informe.org/foaa/Training/CertificationofCompletion.pdf. In addition, we will have certificates available for completion at October Council meetings so that we are in compliance by the November 1 deadline.
