WEEKLY MEMORANDUM

TO:             Mayor MacLean, Members of the City Council, and Department Heads
FROM:     Scott Morelli, City Manager
DATE:     October 8, 2010
RE:             Weekly Memo

UPCOMING MEETINGS
Next week's meeting agenda
Next Week's City Meetings are available on our Calendar

Below please find an update on recent City activities:

  • A reminder that the ribbon-cutting for the Waterfront project will be held next Tuesday, October 12 at 1 pm at the Waterfront.  Senator Susan Collins will be on hand to deliver the keynote address.
  • The Wastewater Advisory Board met last night and had a public hearing on different sewer rate options available to Gardiner residents and businesses.  After information was presented by the consultant and input was given by members of the public, the WWAB voted to either recommend a new structure or make tweaks to the current one.  The WWAB will also be looking at surcharges to place on customers, such as tie-in fees, stormwater discharge fees, grease fees, and high strength user fees.  The WWAB took no action on those fees at their meeting last night and will meet again this fall to further discuss those options.  A formal recommendation and presentation to the Council by Dirigo Engineering and the WWAB will be forthcoming this year.
  • I will be attending the Maine Municipal Association’s annual meeting next Tuesday and Wednesday during the day.  I will be attending workshops on economic development, Maine’s Right to Know law, downtown revitalization, a gubernatorial debate, emergency preparedness, and flood preparation.
  • City offices will be closed on Monday, October 11 in observance of Columbus Day.
As always, I appreciate the opportunity to serve the people of Gardiner as City Manager.
