UPCOMING MEETINGS
City Council Meeting, City Hall, October 24, 2007, 7 p.m.
Fire Prevention
In association with Fire Prevention week, Fire personnel have been visiting elementary and pre-schools as well as daycare facilities to educate young people about the importance of fire prevention and safety in the event of fires.
Public Works Best Practices
With winter closing in we continue our implementation of best practices in the Public Works area. A major effort of late has been to evaluate equipment needs in preparation for purchase of a plow truck. Chuck Applebee and Reggie Grant have completed an exhaustive process of balancing needs and resources with a healthy dose of creative problems-solving. We are purchasing a slightly different type of truck than we have in the past, with numerous very important advantages for the City.
We have awarded the design contract for the new salt shed to Dirigo Engineering after a process that involved several proposals and follow up interviews.
City Staff
Jason Simcock was invited to participate in a panel at the GrowSmart Maine Summit held today at the Civic Center. This is a statewide summit that focuses upon creative approaches to land use/development priorities. Jason’s invitation to address riverfront development speaks well of Gardiner’s innovative strategy to approach the waterfront within an interrelated framework of Main Street, downtown revitalization and regional recreation resources.
Chuck Applebee was recently named as a director of the Friends of the Kennebec River Rail Trail. It seems clear that a strong relationship with this group will result in fully capitalizing upon this wonderful resource for the community and region.
