RE: Weekly Memo
Elections
Gardiner had a 32% turnout at Tuesday's elections. Of those voting, 11% voted by absentee. We had about a dozen vote absentee during the Saturday morning we were open, although the weather may have dissuaded some to venture out. Those who did vote were very positive about the Saturday morning hours.
Logistics worked better than ever. The Boys and Girls Club site works very well for consolidated elections, absentee ballots were processed on Monday and the elections workers were assisted by Buildings and Grounds staff in the break down of booths and equipment. Everyone went home happy and early. Good job Dee and crew!
Brookings Report
Councilor Mentall has recently reminded me of the great insights in the Brookings Report. GrowSmart Maine released the report in the fall of 2006, but the wealth of information and strong recommendations for future prosperity remain important information for all Maine policy makers. The GrowSmart website continues to build upon the Brookings Report and offers both the background research to the report, and summaries of recommendations and current implementation observations/strategies. http://www.growsmartmaine.org/programs/brookingsplan.asp
I will get copies of the printed report for Councilors' reference.
