WEEKLY MEMORANDUM

TO:             Mayor MacLean, Members of the City Council, and Department Heads
FROM:     Scott Morelli, City Manager
DATE:     November 12, 2010
RE:             Weekly Memo

UPCOMING MEETINGS
Next week's meeting agenda
Next Week's City Meetings are available on our Calendar

Below please find an update on recent City activities:

  • The City will be conducting a neighborhood meeting for West Street residents (and any other member of the public) to discuss sewer odors in that area on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 6 pm.  This meeting will be facilitated by Wright-Pierce Engineering, whom the City recently hired to come up with a plan to eliminate the sewer odors in that area.  This meeting will be followed by a discussion with members of the Wastewater Advisory Board about sewer rates.  This board is expected to be prepared to make a recommendation on changes to the City’s sewer rate billing structure at the Council’s meeting on December 1, 2010.
  • Next Friday, November 19, 2010 at 1 pm the City will celebrate the installation of the sculpture at the waterfront.  As you are aware, this sculpture was commissioned by the Savings Bank of Maine and created by resident/artist Robert Lash.  All members of the public are welcome to attend.
  • Work has commenced on the South Gardiner pump station.  This work was delayed because the contractor had to wait for the equipment to be made by an American company, a requirement of the grant money received to perform this work.  The contractor expects to wrap up this project around Thanksgiving time.
  • Congratulations to City Clerk Dee Berglund and other City staff involved in this year’s elections.  Gardiner had a very good voter turnout and despite a large amount of ballots with write-in candidates that needed to be hand counted, City officials did an excellent job in getting the returns in before 11 p.m. on election night.
As always, I appreciate the opportunity to serve the people of Gardiner as City Manager.
