Common Playground Grant
Our grant proposal for playground funding was approved by the Land and Water Conversation Fund. $25,000 has been allocated for our project. This is great news with perfect timing. The award should allow us to move fairly quickly toward designing a project for construction this spring. We budgeted a local match in the current budget, and with some additional fundraising that should be possible in the meantime we ought to be able to get organized for next year’s playground season. Congrats and thank you Jason!
Public Works
We have awarded the bid for the heavy duty one ton plow truck to Rowe Ford for an F550. This truck will greatly enhance our ability to plow many of the smaller streets and allow us to dedicate the capacity of the heavier equipment where it is most needed.
The grader is returning from the Maine Military Authority in Limestone. After four months of attention the twenty year old machine is ready for another fifteen years, at less than half the cost of replacement unit. The front end, motor, bearings, gears and wing towers have been rebuilt at a cost of $125,000 vs. about $280,000 for a new grader. If we continue to implement our Capital Improvement Plan the grader should be removed from regular snow removal service next year, extending the life of our most expansive piece of equipment even past the current fifteen year estimate.
