RE: Weekly Memo
Upcoming Meetings
City Council Meeting, Wednesday, October 3, 2007, 7 p.m.
Maine Municipal Association Convention
Wednesday and Thursday the MMA Convention is in Augusta. Never will a comprehensive educational experience be so close or convenient. We will be happy to register Councilors who would like to attend. Visit www.memun.org for the schedule.
Kennebec River Rail Trail
The Rail Trail opening ceremony is October 4 a t 2pm at the “great wall” in Hallowell. More than ten years of hard work has yielded a really outstanding resource for the Augusta/Gardiner area.
Railroad Caboose
Nate Moulton, Rail Transportation Manager at the MDOT has assured the City the vandalized caboose sitting on the tracks near the waterfront will be removed by the end of next week. MDOT had intended to have removed the caboose already, but there was a last minute effort to save it for the historical value. Nate feels the effort has been given sufficient time and will move quickly to remove the caboose.
Erik Stumpfel is researching local options.
City Equipment
The road grader has suffered a major breakdown. Graders are extremely expensive; they are expensive to buy, they are expensive to maintain, and they are expensive to fix.
Our 1987 grader has given us good service, and has suffered these types of major problems in the past. So, although the circumstance is unanticipated, it is not out of the ordinary realm of possibilities. We are currently investigating options and will report our progress toward a solution.
