Modification of the Business Equipment Tax Reimbursement program has been discussed for several years by the legislature. Last year we assessed approximately $17 million worth of personal property. If that value were eliminated the mil rate would need to rise at least 1.5 mils to simply equalize a tax commitment based entirely on real estate value.

As the wastewater upgrade project winds down the new electronic telemetry and control system (known as SCADA) is coming on line. The plant previously relied upon 1970’s era technology, which in most cases meant physically visiting any site reporting an abnormality simply to ascertain the status. Wastewater staff will soon monitor and control many functions at multiple remote sites (including those in our partner communities of Farmingdale and Randolph) from the South Gardiner plant, from home or from anywhere in the world.
