Congratulations Recreation Department
The Recreation service was recognized at last night’s Board of Trade Annual Meeting. An award was given for the depth and breadth of the programs offered and the excellent service to the community. Congratulations!
Fund For Efficient Delivery of Local and Regional Services
We were awarded $110,000 by the Governor’s Fund for Efficient Delivery of Local and Regional Services. Our request was for the maximum award of $200,000. Only one project received more funding than our proposal – Old Orchard/Biddeford/Saco/Sanford for Emergency Dispatch at $120,000 – and ten received less funding.
This exciting award is in support of our ambitious collocation project; Public Works, Buildings and Grounds, and the Water District are proposed to be located in a common facility at the wastewater plant. $38,000 of annual savings has been identified by creating common facilities while utilizing essentially vacant existing buildings and creating new facilities for these services.
Land Use Violations
The City Solicitor is continuing to pursue possible land use violations at Anthony Auto through the court system. At this writing, a hearing will be held in District Court sometime the week of March 28. A second appearance in District Court may be necessary, but how this initial hearing proceeds will determine next steps.
Flood Update
This spring we are very attuned to potential flooding for a number of reasons. Snowfall accumulations have been relatively heavy in the Kennebec River watershed, we have not seen the normal amount of melting for this point in the spring – although the past week has been helpful in that regard, and ice has remained relatively thick and sound for this time of the year. City staff are conducting weekly meetings to monitor and share information, as well as reviewing emergency planning and preparedness. The website has links to excellent flood information on the emergency management page. http://www.gardinermaine.com/Public_Documents/GardinerME_EmerMan/floodtable
