RE: Weekly Memo
Meetings for the Week of March 27, 2006
Board of Appeals Tues., Mar. 28, 6:00 pm, City Hall
City Council Thurs., Mar. 30, 7:00 pm, City Hall
City Hall Assessment
The current budget funded $5,000 for a small assessment study of City Hall. We issued a request for proposals recently and interviewed five firms. Lewiston architects Smith Reuter Lull really caught the attention of review committee. Their project will not only analyze the existing building and the functions performed within it, but starts with a master planning approach. This effort looks broadly at the site and its neighborhood and long term needs, and applies this context to the practical information generated by the assessment itself. Principal Noel Smith will present this very exciting approach at the next Council meeting.
West Street Bids
Bids for the West Street sewer work came in between $23,892 and $62, 515. We have enough funding on hand to afford the low bid, but no margin for contingencies. We are currently working to explore our options, resolve the details and award the project as soon as possible.
Fall Clean Up
We have moved ahead with organizing an October citywide clean up. Clean up is scheduled for October 2-27. Permits will go on sale September 18, just after taxes are due. Given the escalating costs of solid waste disposal, we are revisiting the permit fees and increases of some variety are almost a certainty. To inform citizens of the schedule change, detailed flyers have been placed at the front counter, the Library and posted on the web, notices posted at City Hall and the Library, and a press release will be issued.
