RE: Weekly Memo
Meetings for the Week of May 3, 2004
Dept. Head Meeting. Tues., May 4, 10:00 am, City Hall
WWTP
Recently plant staffers averted a major failure at the plant by taking immediate action. One of two screw pumps (a critical, primary and very costly component) developed a problem that if overlooked could have resulted in a major and expensive failure. The attentiveness to recognize the problem and a quick response saved ratepayers a very large expense.
You may recall that we are in the midst of permit renewal for the Wastewater Plant with Maine Department of Environmental Protection. Since our last renewal the MDEP has been delegated much of the federal authority of the Environment Protection Agency, making this a significantly more ambitious process. Chuck has met every challenge in this renewal process effectively. Although we have not yet reached the conclusion, several hurdles have been overcome with Chuck’s practical, capable approach.
FY 05 Goal Statement
I have included the revised FY 05 Goal Statement in this packet so that everyone has a copy of the approved document.
Tax Cap Fact Sheet
Also included is a Tax Cap Referendum Question Fact Sheet. This was previously distributed, but the amount of concern over this referendum makes it a useful guide. In the future I will develop operational scenarios for the impact of such a measure.
