Council Schedule
The second reading of the budget has been rescheduled to July 29. We will not meet July 22 as previously planned. After the July 29 business meeting the Council will enjoy a short summer breather, and reconvene September 2 for the regular monthly meeting
Downtown Revitalization
It is extremely exciting to see the underground utilities nearing completion in the Arcade Lot. As soon as the earthwork is completed, the contractor will step aside and CMP will come in to connect the underground utilities and eliminate the above ground wiring. Although we still have further phases before we eliminate all the above ground utilities, this is a real watershed event. The Arcade lot was once a stereotypical unpleasant parking area and is being transformed into an inviting area of natural and man made charm. In some ways it has been a long haul from initial planning in 1997, and the City’s commitment is something to be proud of; but from another perspective, we have accomplished a great deal in terms of improving the community in a relatively short period of time. Eliminating one great big rat’s
nest of overhead utilities in the Arcade is somehow symbolic of both the commitment and the progress. We should be proud of both!
Waterfront Workshops
Chris Paszyc reports the first of two outreach workshops (at Gerard’s Pizza) to solicit ideas for waterfront design went extremely well. He and Linda Matychowiak will host the second event July 20, 6-7 PM at Johnson Hall.
