Meetings for the Week of April 25, 2005
Planning Board Tues., April 26, 6:00 pm. City Hall
New Mills Dam Wed., April 27, 7:00 pm, City Hall
Flood Season
We have officially left spring flood season. On April 15 the National Weather Service issued what was projected to be its last Flood Potential Outlook report. These reports are issued approximately weekly, dependent upon conditions. This last report noted that although the highest danger is past, significant rain is the biggest contributor to flooding and as much as 10 inches of snow and 3-6 inches of water content remains in the mountains.
Public Works
The changing seasons is also apparent with Public Works activities as the snow removal equipment is officially stored mid-April and sweeping this winter’s very heavy accumulation of sand becomes a priority. We are also inaugurating the storm drain cleaning program. This program was created with a very small ($4,200) investment by the City and will pay big dividends in avoided future repair and reconstruction costs.
Front Office Construction
This weekend the Front Office counter will be replaced with a new ergonomically correct front counter. In addition the new counter provides three workstations rather than the current two and much greater efficiency. The Front Office will be closed to complete the project on Monday April 25. Much other cosmetic work is part of the project and we might hardly recognize the space when we reopen Tuesday April 26!
The project is being accomplished with a small allocation in this year’s budget and a lot of teamwork and creative frugality.
