Day of Caring
The United Way’s Day of Caring is Friday, May 7. High school students spend the day working on community projects throughout the district. We plan to have many crews scattered around the City, including cemeteries, the Common, and Downtown. The event is an excellent win-win. We see major progress with so many hands available to us, and the students build pride in their community.
Leadership Maine
I am attending the closing retreat of the Maine Development Foundation’s Leadership Maine program during the end of this week. On Wednesday afternoon and all day Thursday and Friday we will be participating in exercises that round out our leadership learnings and experiences over the past year. Although as I write this I have not yet completed the program, it is clearly one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life, and I am sure the closing retreat will simply reinforce this very enriching year long adventure. The leadership lessons and knowledge I have gained through this program are powerful – and I draw upon them constantly in routine as well as unusual circumstances that I encounter as City Manager. The program has given me valuable new tools to use in better serving this community.
Johnson Hall
A set of “deliverables” was agreed upon when we authorized the Johnson Hall grant. One of those items, a Financial and Development Plan is in the packet.
