Leadership Maine
Chuck Applebee recently attended the closing retreat for the yearlong Maine Development Foundation Leadership Maine program. Chuck found the program as personally and professionally challenging as I did a year ago; and those challenges have provided equally important rewards.
The City is accumulating a very respectable list of “leadership graduates”. In addition to Chuck and myself, Ingrid participated in the Kennebec Leadership Institute several years ago and Mark Kimball graduated last year from the MMA/USM Leadership Program. And not to spoil a surprise, but several more of the management team are trying to find the time in their schedules to make such a commitment in the future. We are truly fortunate to have such committed city staff throughout the organization!
Northwest Quadrant Project
A week or two ago we were experiencing delays with final project review at the granting agencies. This has now developed into a more significant review of the project budget. Economic forces (cost of petroleum pushing prices for paving material and steel manufacturing) are escalating the cost of construction and a final review before bidding is scheduled for next week.
